OAKLAND
LAKE MERRITT
Lake Merritt is the largest man-made salt-water tidal lake in the United States. Exactly three miles around, it is perfect for boating and sailing, picnics on a sunny afternoon, dog trotting, jogging or a leisure stroll, occasionally spotting exotic migratory birds such as a dusky-capped Flycatcher. Besides the nearby restaurants and cafes, there are always activities revolving around the lake. Here are just a few:
BOAT RENTAL INFORMATION
The Lake Merritt Boating Center invites you to come play with them! You can rent small sail or paddle boats by the hour to get warmed up. Then step up and out to the Bay by renting a special charter boat docked in the Oakland estuary at Jack London Square.
HIDDEN GEMS
And don't forget to notice the quiet things to do around the Lake. Most don't know about the Bonsai Garden, for instance, not far from world famous Rose Gardens.
